So you’ve been adding people you don’t know to your Facebook friends list. That’s a huge no-no, but I get it. Old habits die hard.

If I was being blunt and practicing tough love, I would tell you, the stalking victim, to get off social media altogether for crying out loud! Or at least use a pseudonym* and don’t post any information pointing to yourself.

*I know. I know. Facebook doesn’t technically allow pseudonyms but people do use fake names. I know it’s dangerous and it shows Facebook is not really as concerned for privacy and safety as it should…

Make it so much harder for an obsessive stalker to connect the dots

The Goal

What you want is for the stalker to not be able to find you anywhere online, especially on social media. So I will be focusing on tips and tricks you can use to obfuscate your online presence. You want to be invisible and impossible to track down. You want to become a ghost.

1: Usernames

Never EVER recycle your usernames! If your username on one site is bettybrod62, do not use bettybrod62 on any other site. No exceptions!

In fact, don’t even use a similar username on any other site. For example, don’t use bettyb62 somewhere else. …

A plan for people who want to leave social media behind

This article isn’t to convince anyone to delete social media out of their lives. This guide is for freelancers and self-employed business owners who have already made up their minds to leave social media behind.

Make an announcement

If you never regularly interacted with followers on any given platform, this step is unnecessary. Harsh truth: No one will notice or care that you’ve left. But that’s okay because you will lose the anchor weighing you down. What you should want is only people genuinely interested in you and what you do.

If you’re not in that boat: It’s best to set a date…

How to stop yourself from getting into pointless online arguments

When you have a strong, emotional reaction to something online and feel the urge to respond, write out a comment. Get it all out. Once it’s written, select all (Ctrl or Cmd + A) and delete! Don’t post it. Delete it.

You’ll feel better without having started a pointless argument where you could’ve ended up looking like a childish or unstable fool.

It’s best to walk away. Is it that important to tell a stranger that you don’t agree with them if you can’t do it without being snarky, mean, or passive-aggressive? Unfortunately, when people disagree with someone online, it’s…

Blocked users can still see your pages

I have an obsessive stalker. I like to call her a real-life Single White Female, a reference to a 1992 psychological thriller film. We met in the sixth grade. I cut off contact with her in 2004. It’s 2021 and I am currently in my mid-30s! Some months ago, I found out that she’s still stalking me. I caught her on my Facebook business page!

The perils of marketing for victims of stalking

Very recently, I deleted all of my social media accounts. I was never in the social media addict category so it wasn’t a gut-wrenching decision. …

The possessive stalker who claimed to be my best friend

(Note: Real names have been changed.)

I was pretty happy growing up. I was and still am a bit eccentric but I had my little group of friends. I was content. Then, that all changed.

Introduction to my future stalker

It was the start of middle school. I was in the sixth grade. During lunch one day, Millie, a friend I only recently made suggested that I meet one of her friends. I was already hanging out with my close little circle of friends I knew from elementary school.

She didn’t suggest any of them meet her mystery friend, Brenda. She targeted me specifically. To…

Flex Fakers

What is flexing? According to an entry on Urban Dictionary, flexing is “the act of bragging about money-related things, such as about how much money you have, or about expensive possessions like designer clothing.”

More and more, we see flexing exposed as a fraud. Many people flexing online (and even offline) don’t have what they claim to have. They rent Airbnb an mansions for the day and pretend it’s their actual home. They buy expensive brand-name clothes only to return them after posting flashy photos and videos.

Nowadays, so many people feel like they have to present themselves as someone…
